Itinerary

7:00 AM

We leave the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City behind and take a 1.5-hour journey to the now-peaceful rural district of Cu Chi.

8:30 AM

Upon arriving at the Ben Duoc tunnels, you will view a short documentary film that explains the tunnels’ history and the war from the Vietnamese point of view.

After that, your guide will take you on a tour through the actual tunnels where you'll learn more about the living conditions and the hardships the tunnel’s residents faced, and the ingenuity utilized to maintain life in the tunnels, which included weapon workshops and booby traps. You will have an opportunity to navigate an authentic Viet Cong tunnel, visit bunkers designed as kitchens, meeting rooms, weapon areas, give your best shot at a firing range, and much more.

For a snack, you can try the local specialty – cassava, a starchy root - that sustained Viet Cong fighters for years.

1:00 PM

We conclude the tour by returning you to the War Remnants Museum (outside)/ your hotel at around 1:00 PM.

ITINERARY DISCLAIMER

Please note that while we operate successful trips in this region throughout the year, some changes may occur in our itineraries due to inclement weather and common seasonal changes to timetables and transport routes. TOUR FAQs

What to prepare for the trip?

Bring?
  • Hat
  • Sun cream
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Appropriate footwear
Wear?

We do not have a dress code for our tours however, dress standards are conservative throughout Asia, especially outside major cities. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate.

If you choose to crawl through the tunnels, please be aware that your clothes might get dirty. Appropriate footwear is recommended for this activity.

Is tipping customary in Vietnam?

Although our trips are inclusive of all costs and we ensure our guides and local staff are paid fairly, if you're happy with the services provided a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it's of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels and inspires excellent service. Although can be difficult to source we advise you to carry small notes of local currency each day to make tipping easier.

The following amounts are per person suggestions based on local considerations and feedback from our past travellers:

  • Restaurants: Local markets and basic restaurants - round your bill up to the nearest US$1. More up-market restaurants we suggest 10% to 15% of your bill.
  • Drivers: You may have a range of drivers on your trip. Some may be with you for a short journey while others may be with you for a few days. We would suggest a higher tip for those more involved with the group, however, we suggest US$1-US$2 per day for drivers.
  • Your Tour Guide: We suggest US$3-US$5 per day for your tour guide for outstanding service throughout your trip.

Of course, you are free to tip more or less as you see fit, depending on your perception of service quality and the length of your trip. Remember, a tip is NOT compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service. However, please don't tip with coins, very small denomination notes, or dirty and ripped notes. This is regarded as culturally as an insult.

Solid tour with a good guide. Great experience. Our guide Henry was very knowledgeable and informative - on the car ride to the tunnels, he briefed us on the history of the Vietnam war which necessitated the construction of the tunnels, then at the venue led us through and was constantly explaining. As expected, we got to experience squeezing ourselves through the tunnels and had a small meal of tapioca. At our request, the guide also kindly brought us to the nearby shooting range to try out some of the rifles.

The Right Choice to Visit the Ben Duoc Tunnels We were interested in visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels during our stay in HCMC, but wanted a small group tour of the less crowded Ben Douc section of the Tunnels. There are numerous tunnel tours offered by various providers, but most go to the more touristy Ben Dinh portion of the tunnels which are closer to the city. Innoviet was one of the few operators offering a small group visit to Ben Douc. Booking was easy. Our van pickup at our hotel was on time and the tour was excellent. Our guide, Hao, was extremely friendly and gave us an informative talk about the history of Vietnam on the way to the tunnels. Our small group of 6 almost had the Ben Douc tunnels to ourselves. The lack of crowds enhanced the experience and Innoviet offered an option to be dropped off at the War Remnants Museum back in HCMC at the conclusion of the tour which helped us make the best use of our time. I thoroughly recommend visiting the Ben Douc tunnels with Innoviet.

Must-do day trip in Saigon! We were picked up at our hotel by Hai and our driver promptly at 0700 for the tour. Would recommend having breakfast first as not provided. We booked a group tour however no one else had booked, so it was just the two of us! The car was spacious and air conditioned, which was great considering we visited at hottest time of year. Hai was very friendly, and knowledgeable about Vietnamese culture and history - and is a great storyteller! When we arrived at the tunnels site (Ben Duoc) it was very quiet, due to the time we arrived and the site being less visited by big tour buses than the main site. Both sites have the same content, but because it was so quiet it felt much more authentic. Learning about the tunnels was very interesting, and we even crawled through 30 metres of authentic tunnel - exhilarating but very warm! Hai explained very well the living conditions and experiences of the Viet Cong, as well as a demonstration of the booby traps laid for US soldiers. We had plenty of water and got to snack on some cassava, which was eaten by the Vietnamese during the war. We ended the day by doing some live firing with authentic weapons used in the war. The bullets are quite expensive so make sure you know what you really want to try out (we tried 5 rounds each of two different rifles and 40 rounds of a machine gun for around £100). Overall a really well thought out tour, a must visit whilst in Saigon! Thanks to Hai for a lovely day trip.

This is a fantastic company. We are a family of 4 from the UK, with two teenagers whose interest in the war is variable at best, but we loved our private tour with Hai! He did an amazing job in holding everyone's attention. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and with perfect English, his stories brought everything to life! Special shout out too to Trung, in the office, who was fantastically helpful! Innoviet are a great, reliable company. If you only have a little time in Ho Chi Minh City, the half-day tour to Ben Douc is a must!!

We just did the Cu Chi tunnels with Long. Long was fantastic and taught both of us so much. He was very informative, friendly and interesting. We also visited a supported work facility for people had been disabled by agent orange. Whilst this was confronting it was an experience to see the beautiful works of art that the people are producing. Thank you so much along for the excellent morning you facilitated.
