3. Legend of Off-the-beaten-track Mui Vi Rong in Binh Dinh
According to legend, Mui Vi Rong was previously known as Dragon Scale Rock. This rock formation has been around for ages. During the Tang dynasty, General Cao Bien explored the land to find the most prosperous place and chose Mui Vi Rong. He ordered the rock to be cut to prevent future disasters. Strangely, when the dragon vein in the rock was cut, people saw dragon scales falling off and red blood flowing onto the ground. When the blood dried, it formed small red stones in the sand. Since then, locals have called this place Mui Rong.
The locals still say that this red stone is very hard, and when ground with water, it turns a bright red, smooth and shiny like natural lipstick. Thus, examinees used to take this stone to make lipstick for marking their papers. The legend of the name Mui Rong spread widely from there. Nowadays, if you diligently search in the white sand, you can still find these miraculous red stones.
