The Stunning Plum Blossom Season in Vietnam

Discovering the Plum Blossom Season in Bac Ha

In early March, the Bac Ha plateau enters what is hailed as the most beautiful season of the year, with plum blossoms adorning many villages. During spring, Bac Ha district transforms into a "white plateau" as plum blossoms bloom across the hillsides and in the villages of the Mong people. Bac Ha is renowned for its two types of plums: Tam Hoa plum and Ta Van plum. While Tam Hoa plum blossoms are concentrated in the district center, blooming from January to the end of February, the Ta Van plums in higher areas start blooming beautifully in March, especially in Ta Van Chu village.

Ta Van Chu Village - An Ideal Destination for Plum Blossom Season

Ta Van Chu village is located about 20 km northwest of Bac Ha district center and 115 km from Sa Pa town. The road to the village is convenient for both motorbikes and high-clearance vehicles. The air is fresh and cool, making Ta Van Chu an attractive destination for tourists and photographers looking to capture the beauty of spring.

The Beauty of Ta Van Chu's Plum Blossoms

Upon arriving in Ta Van Chu at the end of February, you'll witness plum blossoms in full bloom, turning the villagers' gardens into a sea of white. Plum blossoms are smaller than peach blossoms, growing in clusters on branches with five thin white petals and yellow stamens. This year's plum blossom season lasts until mid-March, providing ample time for visitors to explore.

Experiencing Local Culture

In Ta Van Chu, visitors can easily see villagers dressed in colorful traditional brocade costumes, living under the plum trees or in houses with yin-yang tile roofs. The locals primarily speak the Mong language and some Mandarin, and they are friendly towards tourists. It is recommended to have a local guide if you wish to deeply explore and un

Tips for Visiting

Tourists should visit Ta Van Chu on a sunny day to capture beautiful photos with the pure white plum blossoms and the bright yellow mustard flowers. Some plum gardens charge an entrance fee of 20,000 VND per person, while others are free. Visitors can rent traditional costumes for photos at 50,000 VND.

Since 2006, Ta Van Chu village has been part of the Mong ecological village model project approved by the Lao Cai provincial People's Committee. The village remains pristine, with few shops or overnight accommodations. Visitors can bring snacks and drinks for a day visit and rest in Bac Ha town.

This year, the Bac Ha White Plateau Festival - Spring Drunkenness is held from March 8 to 10, featuring activities such as traditional horse racing, Dao ethnic fire dancing, mountain climbing to conquer the mother-son peak, and the Bac Ha Temple festival.
