The story goes as follows: In 1898, Lieutenant Lagredin, captain of the Avalanse ship, and many sailors encountered a pair of giant sea serpents in Halong Bay. Europeans associated this creature with the Dragon in the imagination of Asians. It was because of the appearance of this dragon-like creature that the area was named Halong Bay (according to the book "Culture and Arts of Quang Ninh," from one perspective, Quang Ninh, 2002).
